Atomic Habits - An Easy & Proven Way to Build Good Habits & Break Bad Ones by James Clear.

Are you ready to make a positive change in your life? Eating healthier, reading more books, learning a new language, or mastering the clarinet are all amazing goals, but they can be hard to stick to. That's why understanding habits can be so helpful! In this book, I'm going to walk you through the key ideas from James Clear's Atomic Habits. It explains that you don't have to completely revolutionize your life to make a big impact - small changes to your behaviour, done consistently, can make all the difference.

Here are the top insights:

  1. Habits are the compound interest of self-improvement.
  2. You do not rise to the level of your goals; you fall to the level of your systems.
  3. You can’t change your outcomes overnight, but you can change your 1% right now.
  4. To make progress, you need to turn a single moment into a habitual event.
  5. Motivation is overrated; Environment is underrated.
  6. You can build better habits with a simple 3-step process: cue, routine, and reward.
  7. The 2-minute rule: Start small, start now.
  8. Track your progress and adjust your tactics.
  9. Habits aren’t only about outcomes; they’re about identity.
  10. Make a plan for the habits you want to focus on.

It's not about making big changes all at once; it's about forming helpful habits that will gradually bring about significant changes. And what's the best way to start? Habit stacking! For example, why not take something you already do and add a different habit to it? If you want to start meditating, you could try doing it each morning after having your coffee - that way, you can use the existing habit to help you stay committed to the new one.

Ikigai is an ancient Japanese concept that can be translated to “a reason for being”. It is a way of life that encourages people to find their passion and purpose in life, and to live a fulfilling and meaningful life. If you are interested in using Ikigai as a tool to do this, check my article out  here  on how to apply it in your life.
